2p - Key features of quadratic relations (parabolas). Vertex, Max/min, axis of symmetry, x and y intercepts, direction of opening. A whole bunch of definitions that you will memorize by doing lots of practice problems.

1p - We are doing experiments today (unfortunately not blowing anything up). A ball bounce and pendulum experiment where we will use our results to graph on the computers at a later date.

4u - Venn diagrams. Art and math together at last.

2p - Review time as your exam will be on Wednesday. You get to make a cheat sheet, so work on the review and put examples on your sheet! I handed out copies of the review, so try them at home and we will take them up tomorrow.

Turnaround day! Don't go to the wrong class today.

2p - Solving word problems involving linear systems. We wrote equations and then solved them to find the POI.

1p - Curve of best fit. Sometimes we do not have a linear relationship and must draw a curve of best fit.

4u - Pascals triangle. The note is on my board website, do questions 1-4 on page 251 of the text. More of the application of this amazing triangle on Monday.

1p - Finish making those scatter plots from yesterday. Independent and dependant variables and where they go. More talk about trends in data.

2p - Elimination today, the third and sometimes easiest method to solve systems of linear equations.

4u - I was not present in class today, but still managed to leave your quiz for Mr. Dockrill to distribute (look at that math lingo!) I was told it took a little longer than i expected, but all of the formulas were given to you so it couldn't have been too taxing. Work on your project after that. If you missed today, come see me at lunch tomorrow in Room 111 to complete it.

1p - Maximum area for a given perimeter using three sides. The work for today was on the back of yesterdays handout. We will have our unit test tomorrow, so do the questions from this week for homework.

Quick summary - 4 sides, use a square or as close to a square as possible.
- 3 sides, the length should be twice as big as the width

2p - Quiz today on chapter 4 and solving equations. We will start our note on Chapter 5 linear systems and finish it tomorrow with time to work. I can already hear your brains exploding like popcorn. Hang in there!

4u - Organized counting today. We started our new unit and did a million examples. Use those examples to do the questions in your study guide. Section 4.1 #1-14 (I forgot my study guide at school so you will have to find the page number yourself!)

1p - Minimizing perimeter with a given area. Pretty much the opposite of what we did yesterday. We will have a unit test on this stuff on Thursday or Friday. I'll let you know tomorrow.

2p - Review day. Complete Chapter 4 review in your text. There is a quiz tomorrow and we will move on to our next unit. Extra practice tests were available during class.

I will be at a Math Professional Developement Day all day today so you will get to hang out with Mr. Reynolds. I'm sad becuase the coffee here is no where near as good as the flavored stuff Mr. Preston brews.

The suicide intervention hockey buyout is on Friday. Make sure to get your ticket to see how bad I am at hockey!

4u - project day! get your topic and write it up, it is due on Friday. How many times have I typed this? I will lay a huge guilt trip on you if you do not have it done by Friday, as I have heard that is the most effective way of getting assignments submitted on time.

1p - fixed perimeter investigation using geoboards and graph paper. I hope there aren't elastics flug all aound the room when I get back tomorrow.

2p - busy day. Start the solving equations assignment, go to the meeting about the literacy test tomorrow. Good luck to all and I will see you on Friday (if you go to the hockey game)

4u - Cause and effect lesson. Just because something is positively correlated does not mean the independent variable causes the dependent one. You can use this knowledge on your project as well. Depressing Monday song played. Tomorrow will be better

1P - Net book lesson today about perimeter, area and finding those two when shapes are combined. It looks like I had some trouble walking around the perimeter of the room today!

2p - Old man Spence had some trouble making his way around the room today, but we still managed to do some literacy preparation followed by a rousing bout of solving both one and two step equations. Lots of limping and talking today, not as much practice time, so we will do that tomorrow. Does anyone have a cane I can use? hahaha.

4u - We went over the project expectations and deadlines at the beginning of class. There are exemplars on the Brock website as well as on the s: share and my board website. The rest of the period can be used for finding a topic and finishing your other work.

1p - levelled lessons on volume continued. This will take all period, and if you would like to come in and finish a level or attempt a new one, you can do so at lunch any day as long as you let me know.

2p - Quiz today on chapter 3 (slope, graphing, yintercepts, and so on). After the quiz we will begin prepping for the literacy test that will be next week.

4U - Here we go......the start of two variable stats after about 15 minutes of QFT (quality Fathom time). Scatter plots and correlation note. Look at that beautiful formula. Appreciate it, ponder it, use it, but whatever you do, don't memorize it. I wouldn't want to be responsible for pushing other valuable information out of your brain to make room.

2P - Properties of slope (roller coaster ride positive, negative, zero and undefined slopes, parallel lines and their slopes) and finding the b in y=mx+b.

1P - Pythagorean theorem investigation. Who knew some old philosopher could do such amazing things with triangles. Practice questions tomorrow.

2P - Outdoor assignment. It was way too snowy to go outside on Friday so we will do it today! Applications of trigonometry are what life is all about.

MFM2P - Trigonometry assignment today, bring your notes and use them to answer the questions. Are you sick of SOH CAH TOA yet?

MFM1P - Percents discounts and taxes. Finding different ways of calculating these things depending on your own preferences. Complete questions 1-7 on the handout.

MFM2P - Today is a continuation of word problems. Textbook work page 86#1,6-10, 12. I will be around to check your understanding. Reminder we have an assignment tomorrow, another on Friday outside (possibly moved to Monday due to weather constraints), a review period Monday and your first part of the exam is on TUESDAY!

MFM1P - Continue the cutting and pasting. This is our last work period on the assignment so use time wisely. Make sure to put all your calculations, steps and descriptions in the spaces between products or on the back of your page. Make sure it is well labelled

MDM4U - A way back play back class today. All about measures of central tendency (read: mean, median, and mode) There was a 3 page handout that i will figure out how to put up here eventually........ continued tomorrow

MFM2P - Today is all about interpreting word problems. We will choose which trig ratio to use in what situation, or if we have to use Pythagorean Theorem. There was a handout with 4 questions and a graphic organizer to help decide which ratio to use.

MFM1P - Today we start a unit rate assessment. It will be an assignment where you cut and paste pairs of items that are different sizes and compare their unit rate to see which is the better buy. Continued tomorrow.

MDM4U - We took care of a few of the problems people were having while wrestling with FATHOM yesterday, but it seems to have most of us in a Sharp Shooter (late 80's early 90's wrestling reference, for those of you too young to remember the legend who is Brett "The Hitman" Hart.)
- we started on the displaying data with graphs note, and will continue tomorrow.

MFM2P - Today we will be finishing the Pythagorean Theorem investigation started yesterday but did not complete (which one of you decided to eat the glue sticks?) Questions from the book p 50 #2ab, 3ab, 5,7

MFM1P - After a lengthy absence from Math class due to the basketball buy out, and a Math conference yesterday, Mr Spence will make his triumphant return to room 111. Lets hope you don't forget what we have done so far! More work on Unit rates and Proportions today.
